“Big data” refers to datasets whose size is beyond the ability of typical database software tools to capture, store, manage, and analyze. This definition is intentionally subjective and incorporates a moving definition of how big a dataset needs to be in order to be considered big data – i.e., we don’t define big data in terms of being larger than a certain number of terabytes (thousands of gigabytes). We assume that, as technology advances over time, the size of datasets that qualify as big data will also increase. Also note that the definition can vary by sector, depending on what kinds of software tools are commonly available and what sizes of datasets are common in a particular industry. With those caveats, big data in many sectors today will range from a few dozen terabytes to multiple petabytes (thousands of terabytes).
SaaS stands for Software as a Service. (Wikipedia Definition)
A configurable product is one that has many choices for a customer to make before they can order the product. Good examples are computers or automobiles.
Emcien’s SaaS solutions require only a browser for users to access them. Recent versions of Chome, Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari are supported.
The data that goes into each of Emcien’s products requires no modelling, so integration is not difficult. This means that if your sales data is in good shape (ie. cleanly stored in an order management system), then you can be live on EmcienMix in a few weeks.
Some organizations take additional time during deployment to organize and standardize their data, making it easier for multiple groups (such as Product Management, Manufacturing and Sales) to share the same view of what customers are buying.

EmcienMix is a unique system that combines the data from Order Management systems, CRM systems and Financial systems. It’s this combination that provides the capabilities to determine the optimal product offerings as well as give a global view to many groups within an organization such as Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Executives.
EmcienMix data can be updated as often as desired via the secure data feed, but typically it’s Daily, Weekly or Monthly depending on the sales volume for the product lines being monitored.
EmcienPatterns accepts any transactional data, the elements of which can be anything including items, regions/locations, store number, salespeople, etc. Patterns will find connections between any elements and reveal them to you.
For more info on the data format see the Data Requirements page.
EmcienScout is a pattern-detection platform for streaming text and Social Media. It takes in large quantities of unorganized data and makes sense of it. It can also measure the significant people from a network of accounts to allow you to focus in on key people of interest. The reports record data and results over time and are used by Law Enforcement and Intel groups to monitor key individuals and stop criminal activity before it happens.
Radian6 is a social media monitoring tool that produces reports that count the number of likes, mentions, etc. and shows graphs of these metrics. The user is typically a PR/Marketing person trying to determine the amount of people mentioning one or more terms in social media. The reports are typically static after being run and are intended to support marketing decisions.
